What better combination for an autumn day out at Springfield -- wines from the prestigious Family of Twelve wineries, food deliciously matched to the wines by Ruth and her chef team, and the vivacious winemaker Helen Masters from Ata Rangi, an ‘honorary sister’.
This is the Te Horo part of a national tour, as the Family of Twelve match their wine with food from top restaurants in a “celebration of kiwi excellence”.
“It’s an honour for us to be included. We know and admire the Family’s people and wines and are having a great time in the kitchen deciding which dishes with which wines for the multi course menu,” Ruth enthused.
Recently named as the Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine’s New Zealand Winemaker of the Year, Helen is a wine dynamo. Bob Campbell MW describes her winemaking as ‘thoughtfully rebellious’, and she brings a pint-sized passion and gregarious personality to sharing her thoughts and descriptions of the range of wines to be presented at this very special Winter Feast.
Some of New Zealand’s top wineries are members of the Family of Twelve promotional group. Founded in 2005 and mostly family-owned, they share a dedication to kiwi excellence in wine, the twelve wineries representing eight regions in a co-operative approach.
Helen’s lively style will bring the Family siblings’ wines to life as she shares her great knowledge and probably a few family secrets along the way. She attributes her strength of personality and drive to being the youngest of 12 children.
