Marmite and Cheese Toasties
Description
(makes 15-20 fingerfood sized toasties)
You will never make enough of these and I guarantee that at least half of your guests will ask for the recipe. Absolutely perfect with New Zealand pinot noir.
INGREDIENTS
1 baguette 100g unsalted butter (softened) 1 egg |
150g tasty cheese (grated on coarse edge of grater}
1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 small jar of Marmite (you will not use it all)
½ tsp flaky salt
|
METHOD
· Slice baguette thinly on an angle. Depending on size of baguette, and angle, you will get 30-40 slices.
· Place slices onto a clean work surface and butter all bread on one side.
To make cheese filling:
· Place egg into a small bowl and lightly whisk. Add cheese with pepper and mix together.
· Turn half of the baguette slices over and spread upwards side {unbuttered} with Marmite. Cover Marmite generously with cheese mixture.
· Turn remaining baguette slices over and spread upwards side {unbuttered} with Marmite. Place Marmite side on top of cheese mixture
· Heat a heavy-based fry pan to hot. Place some sandwiches into frypan, without crowding frypan, and toast for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
· Remove from pan, drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt. Serve hot. Continue to cook remainder of sandwiches.
