My House is Your House
In August 2009 Melod
ie Brinkman, mother of Julie
and mother-in-law of Seby Reeves, contacted
us to explain that she was unsure
of day, month and year but a wedding was in the planning, and as she had
experienced some wonderful events at our property Springfield in Te Horo on the Kapiti Coast, she was highly recommending it to her daughter and son-in-law to
be resident in London. I love our house and the gardens at Springfield and it gives me
pleasure that so many other people can enjoy it and when guests depart I always feel it is ours again.
Saturday 29 January 2011 was settled upon and
planning began. In 2010 Julie and Seby returned to New Zealand for a holiday to
attend a friend’s wedding. Within a group of friends wedding fever always seems
to strike at the same time. With a busy holiday and family schedule, we were
thrilled they could visit Springfield. For an overseas wedding couple the ‘wedding
interview’, which is Paul’s term for the meeting to gather from the bride and
groom their likes, dislikes, food tastes, timings and expectations, usually
happens via Skype.
Julie and Seby returned to the UK reassured we had
everything under control so Julie could concentrate on the finer details such
as her extremely beautiful wedding dress made to measure in London by a Spanish designer Pronovias.
Julie, Seby and I with Melodie’s
input came up with a summery yet stylish menu
and I was delighted they loved the idea of a tiered Lemon Curd Cake with
White Chocolate Butter Frosting to accompany
local strawberries and raspberries which I knew would be perfect at that time
of the year. Wedding cake and dessert all in one. You can view Julie and Seby's dinner menu here.
After dinner Uncle Monkey, one of our favourite
Wellington cover bands, struck up and guests took to the floor. Through a sea
of gyrating guests Melodie found me to hug m
e and thank me profusely for making
her recommendation to Julie and Seby a reality.
